You may be able to tell by sliding the length of the strap leaves between your thumb and forefinger. Normal Sabal leaves will feel "flat" or almost so. Sabal Lisa strap leaves will feel "cupped" or convex because the underside of the leaf will curve inward. As the palm grows those strap leaves will curve almost into cylinders. Normal adult Sabal leaves have deeply cut, flexible leaflets. Adult Sabal Lisa leaves appear uncut and pleated and feel like plastic.
