My wife and I tried a raw macapuno coconut today. It's crazy! The meat is almost an inch thick and very soft. It is actually quite bland, though, so the locals often add sugar. The water tasted more coconuty, though. The shell is a very dark brown and is a lot harder to crack than a normal coconut.

I have one! However, I never let it seed because it hangs over the roof.

Nice! I heard they're hard to find outside of the Philippines. How does it compare to a normal coconut tree? I've only seen young ones for sale here and never seen an adult one. Does it grow as fast as a normal coconut? Does an adult macapuno look different from a normal coconut?
