Foxtail Palm concern

This palm has a slight gouge in the base of the trunk.  I have attached two pictures of the area.  Is there anything I can do to keep this area from decaying?

Its a 3 ft plant.

It was repotted and the area is now above the soil line.   Is a dab of paint a good idea to seal from insects.?

I wouldn’t paint on it. Maybe spray it with some hydrogen. Peroxide and keep that area dry afterwards

Should I try to seal it?

No. You can't seal a palm like you would a woody tree.
