I agree.  If it was setting fruit it would be real easy.

@LI_Pets They are pretty hardy, usually down to low-20s or so.  You'll like them if you're looking for a small, understory palm.  We have a lot around here, but The seeds I collected were duds unfortunately.  Here is some light reading if you would like.

I agree , this is a wonderful palm and its cold hardiness is underrated. Mine saw 20° unprotected with freezing rain and laughed at it not 1 frond burned. It has since split twice now. Slow grower but has been trouble free =)

Hi TJ,

So I have had one of these in a pot a decent size, but have been hesitant to plant out as I thought they were only reportedly hardy to about 25oF.  Is yours in full sun or shade, have overhead canopy when it took 20oF? just curious, as maybe I should plant mine out, just need to find the right spot.  Apparently if the critters don't eat the fruit they are reputed to be delicious.

@LI_Petswelcome!

I agree that palm looks like an A arenarium.

There’s other species too that are a lot smaller and silvery in appearance.

My Allagoptera is in full sun no canopy at all. 2017 it took 24° freezing rain no harm whatsoever. 2018 was even worse as previously stated. I love this palm , Moody gardens nearby has one standing at 6-7' tall.
