Planted an Arenga pinnata about 20 years ago way to close to a Foxtail seedling. They are about 7' apart but have grown to get use to each other.

The Arenga pinnata has flowered many times but has yet to set any seed. Any ideas why? I realize someday the flowering is going to cause it to die and I dread the day I have to cut it down w/out damage to anything around it.
