Here are a few older ones in the ground.  All my debao were grown from Garry's seed out of china.

Here are a few pics of fully mature panzh x debao f1. Wierd thing happened with these plant right after they reached coning size. The bigger mature leaves completely transformed from the typical wide, floppy, sad-looking leaflet into magnificent thin 100% bifed leaves. I would have not believed these were the same plants had I not witnessed it myself.  Picture show a newer flush that has not hardened off.  As many know pictures tend to not do the plants any justice. These are remarkable looking in person.

Do you have an estimation on how much cold each one can take?

Posted

Debaoensis will burn in mid 20s  no frost and wont die unless you get low teens and the caudex is above ground.  Revoluta x debao start to burn with no frost around 22. Full burn below 20.  If you have heavy frost you can add 5 degrees to that. I've never had one die here in the ground and theyve all seen below 12f.

Panzh x debao are 2-3 degrees hardier and more frost resistant. Panzhihensis are the most cold hardy cycad in the world. Dioon edule may be slightly more leaf hardy but an edule can/has completely died and still have green leaves.  I had some panzh in 15g pots that saw 8-10f and never burned. A few flushed a smaller flush that indicated they were affected by the cold though. Others had a full flush or coned the following spring.

Thanks for the great plants and quick shipping!  I figured I'd ask this question here since others might be interested in the answer too:

My plants arrived in great shape and I potted them up to go into 2 gallons and put them in my cycad nursery area.  It's about 30% direct sun and 70% filtered sun during the day.  The leaves appear very dark green, which makes me think that they might have been under some % shade cloth.  I have other Rev x Deb and Panz x Deb in full sun right now, so I know they can take it.  But do you feel these would adapt quickly to full sun, or should I keep them in a part shade area for a few weeks before gradually moving out into the sun?  It's brutally hot here right now, highs at 101F and heat index just shy of 120F.  I just don't want to accidentally torch them!

They have already seen 110f for a few weeks straight in the area they are in.  The hybrids get quite a bit of sun as well as they're only under 30% cloth but all day sun.  The straight debao are grown in much more shade and lower temps.

I bought three from him a few years ago and they're doing great in the ground, in semi-shade here in interior NorCal. Temps sometimes drop to mid-20s F in the winter for short spells but these cycads do fine. I just need to keep the chewing bugs away when the new shoots appear!

@Hillizard how big are they now?

About the size of the 1-gal. plants you're selling now. I think I kept them 'confined' too long in containers. The roots were tightly constricted in the treepots. :bummed:

I’d like to purchase a couple.
