Ended up playing hooky from work today with a friend and landed on the leeward side.  Found one of my favorite coconuts doing that crazy dance and just wanted to share a cool palm with y’all palmaholics.  Post em’ if you got em’ :shaka-2:

I believe a couple things can cause the behavior.  Damage to heart or growth point (physical and maybe disease too?) seems to make them grow the craziest.

I think the wonky ones that aren’t quite as wonky like the one meangreen posted are looking for light.  Seems like a natural response to overgrowth canopy or in that case the bridge.

Umbrae, I recall there was a grower in South Florida who specialized in manipulating palms to make them curvy, pretty popular during real estate boom prior to 2008

I seem to remember one at the Polynesian Cultural Center on Windward O`ahu.  Never took a picture.  Anyone else seen it?

Was at the PCC during the past year and didn’t notice one...  was kinda distracted by a cute little wahine from Kaka’ako.  :wub2:  Any idea where in the place it is?

Tree probably fell on that one.  As @Umbraementioned I've seen washingtonian corkscrewed togeather purposefully in landscapes.
