I have a Windmill Palm on my patio in a container, and we have been getting a very hot heat wave for our region. 30 + is this too hot for a Windmill?

If so how do i keep it cooler ,it is warm even in the shade..

Thanks a lot

We hit mid 90s(35c+) like 45+ days in the summer and even triple digits and my trachycarpus is in nearly full day sun and is loving life! I'd say we are on our way to well over 50 days above 90 so far this year and it's barely July. Just keep them watered.

Not a problem on the heat but any palm in a pot doesn't like those fluctuating root temps.

My windmills have no issues with the Georgia heat.  Mid to high 90's is not unusual here, along with a few days of triple digit heat.  The biggest thing I notice is to give them the occasional water, if we are in a dry spell.

30°C (86°F) isn’t too hot for a Trachy, just keep them watered, pots in the sun get way hotter than the air temperature. The outside of my Trachy’s pot heats up to over 150°F (66°C+) in the sun, thankfully the pot is double-walled so the soil stays cooler.

We wouldnt have thousands of them growing outside for the last 8 years if they died from heat stress in pots.  Two years ago we were right at 40c for a week.  Per the graph below our average high is above 30c for roughly 5 months straight.

I see them in Austin TX, and here a few years ago we had a summer where every day highs were over 100F (37.8C) for months. July and August here the high temps are usually in the upper 90s or low 100s. 30C in July and August is considered cool, so I'm sure your Windmill palm will be fine. I have a 2.5yr old Windmill in a pot and it looks great.

It is fairly dry during the day but humid at night. Here is the forecast for the next 10 days, this is very typical for this time of the year.

Ohh ok, late June to about end of august our daily temps range anywhere from 77 to 91, very erratic, and our nights are nice and cool very easy to sleep in rarely do our night temps get up to 62. I am in zone 3b 4

It is not going to have an issue with the heat, though in the winter you will have to bring it inside.

I would not worry about the heat. None of you get my 46 oC we had this summer and my trachycarpus seen in this 3 year old picture below behing the ensete and now taller than it was not bothered in the least. Having said that, it was watered every day. If yours is in a pot it will definitely need watering often but other than that, a very resilient palm8049064_6b6e28e47db52c63b6f7ce7b501604661.thumb.jpg.f998151cde9349336e4a033d67ff71ff.jpg
