I am curious how my Butia paraguayensis x Syagrus romanzoffiana will look like in a few years. Its leafs are very horizontally arranged compared to those of  a normal Queen Palm. But nevertheless they differ greatly from those of Butia paraguayensis. I assume most mule palms are more upright than this one or am I wrong? Will it look more like a slender Butia or rather like a sturdy queen palm?

Here is a photo the seller sent me to choose my palm (I still don't know why I took this one. Which one would you have picked?):

Please feel free to post your Mule palm as a seedling and how it looks now. Maybe we can see a pattern what to look for to get eventually great looking adult mule palms.

They're highly variable, but maybe you'll see something with multiple posts.  Here is my newest mule as a large seedling in March 2018 (less than 1" diameter at base) and today (roughly grapefruit size diameter at base):

Very nice example. It seems to have retained a similar leaf angle. Was it grown in full sun till you planted it in the ground? It seems to have longer, narrower leafs than mine which could be due to growing conditions or due to genetics. I wish mine would grow that fast from now on . Maybe it will be a little faster-growing when I plant it out next year.

That is how I want my Butyagrus to look like:greenthumb:.  How wide is the crown if I may ask? How much water does it get in summer?

I planted it in the ground shortly after purchase so not sure of the growing conditions prior to purchase at the nursery.  It's planted in mostly full sun getting shade from a neighbor's live oak to the west.  I took the photo at 5 pm yesterday afternoon.  My larger mule is planted behind it.

It’s about 14 feet across and has been very neglected, sometimes getting no water at all but most of the time as a 1 gallon drip head that runs for about 15 minutes three times a week. It’s never had any fertilizer other than what’s naturally in the soil, I’m a bad palm daddy.

Here’s a picture of one of my other hybrids that is a normal mule, it’s been in the ground about 14 years and gets occasional fertilizer and water every other day, it was two seedlings in one pot when I planted it. 83FB2E1F-B9CF-4BAA-AA41-63661E06010A.thumb.jpeg.3e2a83915efbc014d18b2638f17f6d8b.jpeg32058AC3-6DB3-4933-91C7-9F41803EBF1C.thumb.jpeg.1cd67f77796c44a68cc8d5f8215d68d9.jpeg

@LivistonaFan as the previous posters note, the Buteagrus will be monsters.

I'll take pics of mine when the light is better.

LOTS of room, please don't plant under the wires or right next to your house or another structure.

But they're tough and purty, worth it.
