Variegated Sabal palmetto

Variegated Sabal palmetto I purchased from Creekside that has been in the ground for for around 7 years. When it was younger, it used to have more pronounced variegation radiating all the way up its fronds.

Found this small cluster of varigated sabal palmetto while driving in SW Florida. Several adults and multiple juveniles growing in close proximity. I collected about 1000 seeds that I'll put in liners to see what percent are green vs varigated. I wager that a large percent will be varigated because of their close proximity to each other. There were native cabbage palms a little ways away though. The adjacent property owner knows very little about them other than that they are unusual. Unfortunately, they are all directly below high voltage electric facilities so the local utility will cut them down when they grow a little taller.

Looks like they've got just enough trunk to survive a transplant.

How did those seeds end up doing? Hopefully someone can transplant these before the power company cuts them down, I would think they'd be very sought after.

They just look sick to me, I just don’t get the variegated craze… at least in sabal’s., just books like a deficiency imo . To each their own I guess. 🤷‍♂️

UPDATE: These palms have since been removed! A friend drove by the location today and reported back that the larger palms are no longer there. I presume someone purchased them because there are depressions where they used to be. Only a handful of smaller palms that show variegation still remain.
