 Super happy  :O)

Have been  trying to Identify a Encephalartos Natalensis x Woodii.  F1.  I knew it was somewhere in the garden  but had no idea where.

Last week After digging a group of them we got luck and and found a tag.  :O) .

Another two plants planted very close also look like they may be the cross as well but not 100 % on this.

I have included a photo of the  plant that had the tag ( The smaller )  and the larger  very handsome plant that may also be  a  Natalensis x Woodii.  F1.

Any thoughts on this would be great .

Will post a photo of the third plant later.

Thanks in advance and  for all the advise.

Cheers

Congratulations on finding the tags Ian!  I wish I could have been more helpful, and still wish I could be.  Unfortunately, I'm just not that familiar with the E nat x woodii crosses and only have one variety of E natalensis to compare.  There are a few different forms of Encephalartos natalensis, so I would imagine that the form used in the cross will result in varied appearance in the offspring as well.

Thanks Tracy

Yes super lucky to find the tag!

So many have perished or gone. It was a bonus  to see he had written C Giddy on it.

I know there can be  variation in Natalensis and many of the photos I've seen of the Woodii crosses have looked quite different. So may chances for variation. You really need to be very knowledgeable to just pick it out I think.

I've enjoyed  learning as much as I can but there is no substitute for the first-hand knowledge of people who are passionate and have years of experience teach you what the know.

As I mentioned to you , I couldn't ask my friend who grew the plants and inspired my interest as he unfortunately has dementia.

Anyways got there in the end and have enjoyed the hunt :O)
