Sabal 'DeFuniak' Plant Delights

Recommended Posts

Just saw this and thought some of you might be interested in it.  It's a odd one.  A palmetto hybrid of some sort with a bermudiana like trunk.

Look like a fat Palmetto trunk to me but I don't know that much about them.  Keep in mind Plant Delights sells pretty small palms.

The seeds are the same size as Sabal palmetto so at best it might be Sabal palmetto with some Sabal bermudana DNA.

I agree with the comment about Plant Delights selling small palms. This new offering is exciting but I guarantee the palms they sell currently look like a tall blade of grass. And it'll be decades before it looks anything like the picture. I'm 41 years old. I'd prefer something that will actually be a tree in my lifetime.

I was at the PDN open garden/sale last weekend.  I saw the Sabals.  They are just a couple of strap leaves.  What you would expect a 2 to 3 year old Sabal to look like.

I resisted the urge to pick up any palms, as I have a bunch of my own seedlings now on deck...

Is that the size you received?  Like other posters a lot of their stuff is pretty small.

Members that have already posted on this thread above.   Typically Plant Delights stuff is on the small side.
