I have a 1 gallon pot with Loxococcus ruicola growing.  How much sun can this take here in Hawai`i?  The spot give morning and afternoon shade but middle of the day would get direct sun.  I could a sun screen to shade it for a few years but in time, say 5 years would it still need shade?

I just planted out a 1g in full sun da kine about 2 weeks ago...  leaves are just beginning to demonstrate pinnateness (I made that word so it's a word:D).  Didn't melt down and new leaf is growing, maybe a bit harsh but no problems so far in the red to dark orange zone...

Here is the one I planted from a 1gallon in full sun. I will admit that it did burn a bit but quickly grew out of it

Steve here is a shot of mine, between house and wall, only get about an hour or so of direct sun. In between Areca macrocaylx.  Not sure if they would be too happy with all day direct sun. At he end is the orange crown of a Pinanga caseia, which gets burned by summer sun, but does much better during this time of yeafr. There are a couple Loxo at Lyon and they are both in fairly shaded areas along the main trail

Steve, they love full sun here in Hilo and they can take more sun than you think even in Wai’anae. Fairly fast growers to a point and nice color on the crown shaft. Mine are probably ten years in the ground and the scale is nice, a smaller medium sized palm. I will say though, they are a bit of a bug  magnet and I have to keep my eye on them regularly.

Finally put it in the ground.  Should get good shade until it gets a bit bigger and I begin to cut back the scrub trees providing shade.
