The big freeze aftermath in Dallas 3F 7 days below freezing.

Dallas freeze update. Trunk collapse and such. 
3 weeks after 3F and 7 days below freezing.  I haven’t noticed any new growth on any of my palms that I’ve used a black grease pen to mark up. Trimming my chamaerhops Humilis I noticed a big difference between the green form and the nearby cerifera form.  The green form had trunk collapse on several trunks. The spears were still intact and you couldn’t pull them out but the trunk was wobbly and floppy.  The nearby cerifera was defoliated but green spears were present.  Last big freeze it got down to 11F and the cerifera didn’t defóliate.  The green form had trunk collapse at that time too on one of the side trunks..  The main trunk was intact in 2011.  Growers in zone 8 need to demand nurseries to sell the more hardy c. Humilis cerifera. It makes a huge difference in our climate we need to protect our investment with the appropriate palms. For long term enjoyment. no green spears on collapsed trunks

I cannot 'like' this but thanks for posting these updates. Hope some of these gems will pull through. Good to know about the cerifera being able to go down to these single digits temps.

@TonyDFW  my 2 green Chamaerops were unprotected and saw a low of -2 F with sub-freezing temps for a week too.  Both had central spear pull but the crown and trunk remains green and solid( so far). Maybe we need to switch out to the “cerifera” variety for sure.

I don't think I'd be smiling Tony.  I'd be more like your cat - thoroughly unimpressed.

I've seen pictures from the last time you had a lot of damage, so I hope more of your palms start coming around.  The only upside is, is that if you have to remove some palms there is a lot of "opportunity" there.

I've noticed that exact same cold damage (on left of Tony's palm higher up) on many different Washingtonia trunks here in SA as well.  It looks like someone took a blow torch to the trunk.  Lower trunk damage on right side might be from prior freeze events?
