When I visited there I was amazed to find those Archontophoenix  and Ficus at over 1000m in areas that felt very cold compared to the lowlands, even in mid summer.

Actually the Bunya Mountains is about as far north as the snow falls during a big south eastern Australian polar outbreak. Pic from the 2015 event.

You think of Bunyas and Hoop Pines as having similar characteristics until you see them in photos in succession like that and realize how rocket-shippy the Bunya profile is.
