20210410_185943.thumb.jpg.a515041eb6430701fc04a8616c63e744.jpgUpdate from the Bronx, NY.  I dont even bother to protect it anymore, this Trachy loves the winter!!! Grows at least a foot a year. Been in the ground at least 8 years. Had it delivered from Chilly palms, In North Carolina.  Definitely a eye catcher and a conversation piece. Yes, you can successfully grow windmills in NYC.. GOOD LUCK TO ALL YOU PALM GROWERS UP NORTH. looking foward to hearing your comments and suggestions.

Very impressive, looks good and extremely healthy.  If you want to make it look even more tropical, skin the trunk.

I used to go to the city a lot when I was a kid. I always heard people say there were some palms at the Bronx zoo I’ve never been there though. I know it stays warmer there because you’re on the ocean, but what’s the lowest temperature you get during a normal winter?

I live in a place called city island... its an island located off the bronx. We definitely experience some tough winters here.. however i do believe we are located in a mini micro climate. And i think we border on a 7a 7b hardiness zone.

Someone on here said that every time he saw a trachy skinned, they would die soon after.

I remember the winters lasting forever though. I lived upstate, might as well be Alaska compared to those temps. I’m impressed, there’s not even cold damage to the fronds. Whatever you’re doing is working!!

It was colder at Intercontinental airport in Houston, Texas than Central Park New York this year. The ones in Houston are green.

Just saying, this was an exceptional warm year in New York, so don’t count on it continuing.

I know transplanted large ones have made some short brief runs of 5-6 years in the past in along on Long Island, but those eventually died when left to their own.

Apparently in Texas a few can survive near -2 up against southerly buldings out of the north wind. While those not in the perfect spot will perish. These are all on the same street.

Your Trachy looks awesome. I like the "natural" look of the trunk.
