Around 2005 I built a small pond for my wife as she wanted to grow water lilys

Couple of years later 2008 I bought a Cyrtostachys renda put it in a cement pot and placed in in one corner of the pond sitting on a cement block.

At some point in time my lady bought some papyrus thinking it would look nice in the pond.  Well for a few years yes.  Then it decided to take over the pond including the pot w/my Cyrtostachys renda.  Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Yea the palm is in there somewhere.....

Above picture was 2019.  I began searching w/a pair of hand loppers and found the palm.

This year I got aggressive and began spraying the papyrus w/round up, weed whacking it and trying to give the Cyrtostachys renda more life.  Not sure how to keep killing the papyrus and not the palm.  I tried lifting the pot out of the pond but it's "LOCKED" in there.

The pond is stunning. I have what I call my Miskito pit and I put that stuff in it now I think I am going to rip it out before it goes crazy like yours has

There is no easy answer here.  A lot of aggressive water plants do need constant aggressive control measures, at this stage I think that there is no alternative than a lot of hard work to remove it completely, bar perhaps one pot on a brick, then you are good for another few years.

Repotting the palm is a given.

Cheers Steve

It is not dead, it is just senescence.
