What color should Sylvester palm seeds be before getting them down and then planting?

As a favor of trade for a neighbor I am going to cut down her Sylvester palm branches with seeds before they fall, then plant the seeds. They are a darkish green right now. If I cut them down at this time will they still be viable to plant? Or should I wait until they’re orange?

In the past I have cut my chinensis seeds off the palm When they were green and let them turn black.  They all sprouted.  I'm not saying that would happen with Phoenix sylvestris.

Ok I’ll trust you. The lady seems fine with waiting. Do you have any recommendations for planting 100s of seeds at a time? I soaked my last few hundred queens in a bin for almost a week and then spread them in a bed with pine needles under some oaks and pine trees.

do you think I would have success with Sylvestris seeds with that method? Or should each one be potted up?

Good to know. I’ve offered this service on swip swap on Facebook so I’m sure I will get a few impatient people who want them cut green.

I’ve ripened Foxtail (Woodyetea Bifercata) palm seeds by keeping them in a brown paper bag.

If you get green seeds for free, you’ve got little to lose!
