Any cool or cold hardiness? I was thinking maybe zone 9b/10 Texas would be hot enough?

Zone 10, maybe microclimate of 9b. TX summers should be hot enough esp. with humidity. The winters, however ..........?

I don't think that it would survive a Texas winter.

Not even in the RGV?

If February's epic freeze didn't kill the coconuts in RGV, Gaussias may stand a long term chance.

I'm not familiar enough with the TX geography and climate to make guarantees. But if no one tries no one will ever know.

Maybe, in a warm area with protection from strong cold fronts. It's easy to grow in the Miami area. It might do okay near the Gulf. If coconuts would make it, G g-p would, too.

If they can grow in Orlando and Tampa Fine, they can live between record freezes in Texas.
However, if this species Is only able to be Grown in Miami?? then this would be a pass.

This is my “criteria” for growing unusual palms in Texas 9b+.

Probably can be grown in Texas, between freezes with protection. Actually makes a great potted specimen though, and you can bring it inside during a freeze. This is one of those species that looks great up to 15 gallon size, but gets ugly as soon as the trunk elongates. I'm growing a bunch of seedlings, and also have older specimens planted in the yard in AZ.They receive no protection, but we rarely go below 28F ever.

I just bought 20 seeds.  We'll see how they do in the RGV If I can get them to germinate.

How old are those @aztropic? They look great.

Seedlings are 2 years old.In ground is 10 years old. It's actually a fairly quick growing palm for something out of the ordinary.

Were these pretty easy to germinate? My luck with seeds ain't great.

@PalmatierMeg I guess I could ask you too. I'd like to try some of these and a random assortment of your Archie seeds if I can get some confidence going.

Seeds are the size of marbles and easy germinators. 95F bottom heat will sprout them quickly.

:( I wanted to try the GGP's

I've gotta pay a couple tickets and I'll see what I've got left in the bank. I'll reach out. Fwiw I'm not looking for a lot, I'm living in a small apartment so if you've got a small amount I'm down.
