I just want to post a few pictures of my crinum in bloom.  This crinum only flowers when it rains just like rain lilies.20210507_082902.thumb.jpg.e8f09dd13997f6fc2fb33b3aac252153.jpg

Looks Great Reyes..  Aside from C. asiaticum and it's forms, most Crinum are under-used in many landscapes.  Was growing a few sp. but all struggled in pots thru our summers.

Want to find some of these and create something similar in the future:    ( **Article from last year** )

Thanks.  I don't know if they don't like pots but I too struggled growing these in pots.  They were not happy at all so I just planted them in the ground.  The weird thing is that my grandma had great success growing crinum in pots.  She had the greenest of green thumbs I guess.

I also have a light pink and a salmon/dark pink crinum.  They don't flower to often since they prefer to flower after a nice rain and it doesn't rain to much here.20150613_103734.thumb.jpg.30065e89e19b8371ca237e161a0f40c4.jpg

Mine all did great until moving here, then it was a slow decline until i finally tossed them last summer. Same w/ Nerine, another Bulb-type plant from Africa ( Flowers resemble Hurricane Lilies < Lycoris > and some Australian Amaryllis i had.  Aztec Lilies ( Sprecklia ) do alright, but never flower in pots here. Would flower every year both in CA. and while in FL.

Biggest problem in Florida for these is the lubber grasshoppers. I was using crinums extensively in the landscape but they were so much work to keep the lubbers under control.

We ( Darwin, Australia ) have a local endemic Crinum known as the Darwin Swamp Lily. ( I cant remember its Latin name ).  A seasonal plant that makes an apperance after the first rains of the Wet Season.  Locally common, it dies off at the end of the 'Wet'.

Crinum purpurascens 'Burgundy' or 'Burgundy Edge'.  Nice little Crinum that only gets to 30cm.

I have one of those...I'm thinking it's the second one...(They all kinda look the same..LOL)  Mine has never bloomed.  It's been in a pot for about 12 years.  I think it may have been sold as "Asiatic", or "Queen Emma",  as a potted plant, but it certainly isn't.  It's foliage is a bit narrower than hippeastrum.  It's extremely hardy.  It produces offsets, but no bulb.

These are definitely not plants for pots.  I have tried growing them in pots with no success.  Please post pictures of yours.  I would love to see it.

This one with purple leaves is like a dwarf.  When I found out it wasn't a queen emma, I just left it in a pot..LOL

It is extremely cold hardy.  This past freeze was the first time I ever protected it.  It is much more cold tolerant than my hymenocallis.

Compare to hymenocallis in other pot.  The hymenocallis is heavy.  (Pass along bulb waiting for a spot in my garden)...The little crinum is super light.  Most crinums in pots end up breaking the pots!  But not this little one!  183864885_141568317953919_5646981378548941606_n.thumb.jpg.fbb55330bde06b6665c6737dcc0b1641.jpg

I like that red coloring on the leaves.  Even if it never flowered the leaves alone would make it a show stopper.  I'm trying to find one to add to my collection.

Pam Penick up in Austin grows a similar looking crinum and calls it  "Procerum splendens"  (which is also Queen Emma)

But a Boerne based wholesaler, Tejas Bulbs sells to 2 local nurseries in Austin and San Antonio.    I think Tejas Bulbs mislabeled them.

Try for Queen Emma and/or Sangria.  Queen Emma is hardy in the valley and is beautiful!

Is this the one your talking about. They are calling it Crinum procerum var. splendens (Queen Emma Lily)Screenshot_2021-05-10-21-28-47-1.png.7aef44d27005b74eccf75d42423b7e44.png

Yes!  That's Queen Emma!  It isn't as hardy as most crinums, but should remain evergreen in the RGV and attain its full stature.
(I think it is hardy to zone 8)

I see it now and then at Rainbow Gardens here in town.  The plants are large and somewhat expensive.  I think they are usually sold in 5 gallon pots.

I would grow one in my front yard if I lived in the RGV...

Palm Talk thread:

https://www.palmtalk.org/forum/index.php?/topic/61181-crinum-lily/

As an aside:  Asiatic crinums are popular in India..I see them planted in front yards, in Bollywood movies.  They seem to be planted in all sorts of socio-economic situations.

(Tecoma Stans, Yellow Bells, Esperanza is also popular in India, but it seems to be planted in manicured landscaped areas..It's  fun to see a native plant overseas :D)
