I have seen a few Trachies with stripped trunks, and they come out very smooth.  My Phoenix Roebellini all have stripped trunks, just because the fibers fall off after a while.  The Roebellini have that kind of interesting "dragon scale" looking trunk, with alternating "scales" sticking out.  But I have never seen a picture of a stripped trunk Chamaerops.  Is it just because they are so stabby, or furry, or irregularly weird when the old leaf bases are removed?  I have a mostly solo one that I had to yank out of the ground in March.  I tossed it in a random pot with not enough soil in the bottom, so it looks really short.  But it actually has around 2 feet of trunk.  I was thinking of experimenting on it, but I have no idea what it would look like!  Any photos of stripped or trimmed trunk Chamaerops?

I *think* they have smooth (or relatively smooth) gray trunks on them when they get quite old.

I have only seen it on very tall, and very old palms, and even then there is usually still a good bit of fiber/leaf bases on the upper part.

I too am curious about this however.

Wooohooo!!!  Thanks for the photo wimmie, that is exactly what I needed!  I think I'll trim up this one trunk while it's still solo, I'll post an "after" photo later.

My Chamaeropses and Trachies are being vandalized by nestling birds and even by squirrels! They no doubt will have warm and soft nests. My palms look a bit tatty:wacko:
