Not sure when I got these 3.  Probably 2008.  Not sure when I planted them, but this shot was in 2010...The area then was in heavy shade provided by "Haole Koa" (https://selectree-test.calpoly.edu/tree-detail/leucaena-leucocephala).

By 2019 one had died, but the other two have gained some height.  One more than the other, still in shade

The during the 2020 Covid lockdown I cleared most of the Haole Koa exposing them to hours of direct sun causing scolding, but continued growth.  I planted a Hawaiian native Pokalakala (http://nativeplants.hawaii.edu/plant/view/Polyscias_racemosa)  on the west side hoping that in time it would bring shade to the area   It has been growing fast but not that fast so I began building a sun shade for them and finished today.

So here is the structure I built to shade the two palms.
