Is anyone else growing this lovely tree? I bought one last season and it bloomed all summer. Its started to bloom now, I've had maybe 5 blooms so far. They only last a day, so I'm glad I caught this one....its not the 'usual'. The petals are usually a uniform red. This one has a pattern, like variegation. They are too uniform for me to think mechanical damage. I searched through images of these flowers online and did not find any that look like this one. Aberrant one first, usual suspect second

I'm growing it in Southern California-it's about 15" tall and bloomed several times last year.  No problems with the cold here, although it's slower than in Florida.

What is the growth habit on this species of Bauhinia, is it more like an upright tree or more shrubby like Bauhinia galpinii?

Mine is a small tree. Single trunk. It blooms a whole lot better than my galpinii
