There is no such thing as having too many red leaves on palms. Red leaves are short lasting, lingering only a few days before fading to green. Catch them in photos for posterity. Everyone is familiar with the spectacular shows from the Chambeyronia genus. But only in the past week did I learn that Cyrtostachys loriae also opens new leaves in the red spectrum. So, enjoy.

A full green-emergent C. macrocarpa is hard to find. Even though most don't want one, they are kinda unique.

It also looks like your specimen has the Watermelon coloration. It is most unusual to have both features on the same palm.

This appears to be hookerii, not Macrocarpa which always tends to be the more vibrant new red leaf in my opinion.

Meg, I love that loriae!  I will be interested to see how is does in the ground in your location as I assume it is a zone 11 palm.

That Phoenix l  was grown from seed I got from RPS. It's good to know I have a blondie growing. I just put one on the other side of the house next to two macrocarpas. I got some nice 1 gallons from Dave.

@The Germinator you could do a helluva lot worse than have a flock of hookeri. Between those and the macrocarpas I sometimes get nine redders all at once.

It is reputed to be hardier and more robust than C. renda or C. elegans. It is also a solitary palm. I may still spray it with Dithene-45 come fall. It is also small enough to cover and I may if temps fall below 40 but I planted it on the south side of the house between the wall and the canal out of the way of north winds.

I believe it is phoenix loureiri.  It grrows like a weed. I have  plenty of seed if you want but they will be hybrid.

Thanks for asking,

Ed

Lourerii is a nice mid size Phoenix. Big enough to be seen without turning into a monster.
