Sabal seedlings growing fast!

My Sabal palmetto seedlings are over a year old now, and are now pushing out their 8th strap leaf. I am beginning to wonder now, how many more straps will there be before i start seeing partially palmate fronds? Im getting impatient, these are my first achievements in the palm world :D

Congratulations! I got mine from a nursery and it's 3 years old and it's still on strap leaves so if yours goes palmate so quick I'll be jealous :floor:

3 years? Wow, hopefully now that yours is in the ground it will pick up some speed! I do know one thing, the straps are getting thicker in width, each one comes out thicker than the last one. The one that is technically older but grows slower, is also the thickest one in size, i can even make out the little baby palmetto boots on the base of it
The other one, more slender than the other, also has smaller leaves, is the faster grower. They are both ready for planting, but finding a place that actually makes sense will be harder to do now. But, its getting later in the summer now, and us palm growers only have about a month left of planting season before the general cut off, so these wont go in the ground until next summer hopefully.

@ZPalms Heres an image that i recently posted, comparing them to the size of my Bizzy, which was brought to life earlier this year. I couldnt find a decent sized container for the larger one at the time, so i used a bucket. Gotta do what you gotta do lol

I feel confident that next summer my palmetto should go palmate so I'm looking forward to that and it should be all done with recovery from transplanting! And I understand the struggle of finding a place to plant, I also struggle with putting things in the ground because I never wanna leave my palms behind if we ever move to a new place I'll do whatever it takes to get my palms out the ground and take them :floor2:

They are so cute!   I really need to grow some palmettos and other sabals from seeds but the only thing that sucks is they look like strap leaves for such a long time but I guess the long road final product is worth it! :P

Good work @JLM. Is that a strap leaf seedling planted in the ground? Whatever it is you should clear all the grass/weeds from a 2’ circle around it and lay some mulch. Weeds will suck up water and fertilizer and choke palm seedlings.

Thanks! I actually just weeded around everything yesterday, and fertilized the big stuff for the last time this year. The seedling in the ground is my Bizzy.
