Two Sabal Minors doing well in Bethany Beach, Delaware...they’ve been unprotected and in-ground since, I think, 2017...they get a couple rounds of Palmgain and lots of water when I’m here...I do cover the area around them with a thick layer of pine needles for winter. Very happy with their performance...They really have pretty substantial crowns and maybe they’ll start trunking just a little bit, though I don’t think minors have that characteristic...however, my Brazoria at home is getting the beginnings of a nice trunk! I have three offspring growing in Virginia from these and look forward to the same cold hardy success with them.

Nice looking palms. Most Sabal minors don't trunk above ground.

Thank you all...they are among my first ventures into cold hardy palms, though my trunking palms at home, predate them to 2014... these, however are on their own at a family vacation home and they’ve hung in there quite well...I’d say, they are a tried and tested cold hardy palm for zone 7...for now, anyway, they’re in the right zone.

No... I really don’t keep up with that...but I do think the cold temps are somewhat moderated this close to the ocean...they enjoy a pretty good amount of south facing sunshine as the sun’s ark sinks on the horizon in the winter. They also get a fair amount of protection from heavy winds given their locations. Prior to establishment, they did get some leaf damage but I think most of that affected older fronds. The one thing I have noticed on the palm near the canal...some fronds collapse at the end of the petiole...they remain mostly a healthy green but totally lose that palmate structure. Though the one near the canal is well protected, I do think winter winds work their way in and have an effect. But I’ll leave them on until they turn brown...I do have a tendency to cut off fronds that look messy which is a no-no...
