I’m loving the progress! I’m just curious, how does everyone protect their seedlings from deer and rabbits? I’ve been trying to grow palms inside and outside my fence for years with no success because of these two…

Thanks! The only way I know how to protect seedlings in the ground is fencing, when I first planted this palmetto, I put a fence around it because I knew rabbits came around occasionally but I don’t see them anymore and I’ve removed the fence just recently.

Did you put these guys in the ground? I’ve planted a few this spring. Two big 25g ones and a few strap leaf ones. They’re all already moving.

I had one almost die so I had to transplant it into a pot to let it recover but the other one was transplanted into the ground back in april!

Right on. I’ve got some that I planted in the ground a couple years ago. Once they start moving they giddy up compared to any other sabal I’ve grown. 
 

I planted a couple that were supposed to be , but ended up being domengensis, burned in the low 20’s, to the compost pile they went

I'm excited for them to finally get there palmate leaves, hopefully my family doesn't decide to move out of nowhere in the middle of me planting all my good sabals 🙄

Fingers crossed for you. My palms have “suffered” in pots for many more years than I anticipated. Building a house anywhere is spitting distance of covid was set back after set back 🙄

I worry keeping them in pots very long because I wanna enjoy their growth in the ground but I'd to have to leave them behind if a move happened and since sabals really take half a lifetime and collecting them all over again and starting from scratch scares me 😭

Took this photo yesterday, very exciting to see it's getting some size on it and it feels like with each frond just slightly faster than the last. 🤠
