Two of the stems of my Chamaedorea seifrizii just died seemingly overnight, and I'm afraid most of the rest of the clump isn't far behind. I'm looking closer and can't figure out what's happening. The palms seem to have been girdled around the upper stem, under the old leaf bases where they have turned completely yellow/white wherever I remove any plant material. The crown itself looks completely healthy, at least at first and then it dies as the stem below it dies. They were relatively clean and most only had 1-2 dead leaves to remove but it seems like there was possibly some kind of insect (?) hiding under there. But I don't see any mealies or insects that I recognize, only some general white fuzziness and brown material like dirt or droppings. Only two stems which had no dead plant material to remove still look completely healthy and green. Whatever it is seems to be in the process of attacking my metallicas as well. The one in the photo below I'm afraid is lost - gone completely yellow through the stem. Is it fungal? This is all outdoors in SW FL, during the rainy season.

I think so, that's what's got me worried now. I can't figure out which one though or how to keep it from spreading!

fungus is a bitch to treat, In order to treat it you first have to identify the strain. Is there anyway you can quarantine the healthy ones? or maybe spray the healthy ones with a fungicide?. I honestly have very limited experience with fungus...wish i could help more, hope you figure it out :D
