Thanks for the update. They really got hit but nothing too bad in most cases I would say. Especially not the Washingtonias. I hope that 2023 will be again a hot year in London so that the CIDPs can recover a bit faster.

Yes, it will be interesting to see how they grow over the years... I will also make a topic of this palm when planted out in the garden coming spring to share my experiances

Cool I'm looking forward to it. I will also show and explain my 2 failed attempts. I wonder how CIDPs will fare in our Atlantic climate here on the mainland, especially longterm in the next 10 to 30 years.

Hopefully hotter than 2022. 2023 is supposed to be one of the hottest and they are predicting 2024 will be a very hot year. Washingtonia grow extremely fast in London. 25+ fronds a year

I don't worry about Washies growth rate even in the exceptionally cold and rainy year of 2021 just after the freeze in Feb they pushed leaves out like crazy. We will see. You can't fully rely on such long term forecasts. They become better over the years but climate is also getting more unpredictable than it's been before. The tendency for hot weather is rising in general so I'm not too worried about it. But as I've just mentioned 2021. It's been all in all a very cool and rainy year even colder than what's been normal for the last century. Especially the summer. The weather patterns were also completely abnormal and I've never seen something like that. And there other parts of Europe who have had this expierence in 2022.

I suddenly remembered that once I walked by a small CIDP that was growing on top of a basement garage in London. I wondered if it is still there and I actually found it because of the McDonals's I went to near by.
As you can see the soil is not very deep and it's still there and actually gotten bigger.

Yep still there! I drive past it every morning on my way to work. It is a bit bigger now, but the root system is probably restricted so that would limit growth potential. I'll try and get a pic!

I wonder if someday it'll start to push itself up or even damage the garage. Their roots are very strong. An update would be very cool!
