Recommended Posts

Just purchased this Bizmark palm from a local box store.

Hoping i planted it correctly and in a good location. I have heard these palms are picky!

Day 2 from planting and no signs of shock yet!

I feel like they are only picky if you damage the roots during planting out. Looks like it will have plenty of sun in that location. You should be good, just water a good amount. Congrats on your purchase. Love Bismarckia’s!

If your worried about shock, I take a cup of non scented epsom salt and mix it per gallon of water. Let it dissolve and water. Mine always respond very well with this treatment in nutrient deficient Florida sand.

Do not overwater this palm.  It should not be planted near plants that need frequent watering.  Yes water as directed and back off the amount when temps drop.  Bismarckia are not nutrient needy, they survive in habitat quite well is nutrient depleted, lateritic soil.  Yes they will grow faster with some fertilizer, but right now hold back on that.  You might condition the soil around the plant with humic acid to improve beneficial microbial content.  The get large, with leaves extending 12' from trunk center so site space might be an issue.  Mature, it will throw lots of shade too.

Yes, so hard to find in the Sacramento area. Although Palm Island has them for $350 (only one left).

I got it for 40$ because i asked if they could discount it based on a dead frond it had.

I dont have any irrigation watering planned for this side.  thanks for the advice. I will plant more drought tolerant plants and lay back on the water lol.
