Give it lots of sun and room...fronds are really big...loves lots of water, too. It’s actually beginning to form a trunk. I planted mine too close to the Trachy but my perceived protection zone is limited. Your zone will have more placement options.

Here is one I planted in 2007 or 2010, pictured the day before the big freeze on Feb 14, 2021 already coated in a glass of ice.

How did it do? Did it make it through that test of all tests for cold hardy palms?

It probably sailed through. Here is the 25-30 year old Brazoriensis at Barton Springs Nursery in Austin. It probably saw 6-7*F. That thing has Filifera sized trunk width.

There is the Sabal at Barton Springs, after. Looks a little too just minor Louisiana for me. Just saying.
and then the one I planted after 3F. It was damaged some. 5-10 percent and leaves trashed.

Good to see the Brazoria doing so well after such a huge test...I’m protecting mine less this winter but will be ready to react if teens and single digits settle in...been in ground since 2015 so I want to let it do its cold hard job. I’ve really babied it till now. The minors are very secure here so, like the needles, require little or no protection. I do like the thought of another trunking palm, other than my Trachy but the Brazoria is a very slow grower...but that’s fine, too especially since it has such a nice bluish (stretching it a bit) coloration.

I purchased mine from Gary as well. I live in Raleigh, zone 7b. I planted mine next to my patio on the south side of my house. I don't give it any winter protection and it seems to be doing well.

I'm in a NC z7a and during the polar vortex yr of 2014 we had temps down to -2.  I lost a couple small seedlings, but none of my larger Brazorias were severely damaged.

It is at home on the banks of the Brazos River that flows into the wildlife area they are native to. You can find fossils of palms here.

The Sabal at Barton Springs has very strong stiff leaves. The Sabal I have that is Brazoria leaves are huge and showed more damaged from the weight of snow.
Then there are these two unknown Sabals in Hempstead, which until the freeze I thought were the same, and maybe Burmudanas. The small one sailed through the freeze and the tall one, that I assumed was the mother plant appears to be in decline from the freeze. Clearly was severely damaged.
Pictures from 12/21/21. The smaller is setting seed in December. And not very tall, so it rules out a lot of Sabals. Very odd timing. I hope we can skip winter so the seeds mature.

That is one purdy Sabal. I should have gotten one during an auction when I had the chance.

Save 'em.

I got over 1000 seeds I am estimating from it. Soaking them in insecticidal soap and will put them in community pots to grow on. I would consider trades down the road, but I do not plan to ship or sell seeds this season ( stating this since I have been asked).

They trimmed the one at Barton Springs way back, I didn’t see the condition of the older fronds prior.  The new growth looks similar to your new growth. I can’t say for certain that’s what it is, but I will say Barton Springs is probably the most accurate nursery I visit regarding identification.

Does anyone know at which age Sabal brazoriensis begins fruiting?

From seed to flowering it was around 13 years for me.

I guess I have a few years to go before mine produce any seeds.
