San Angelo has probably seen mid teens atleast this year. February 2021 it got down to -1°F(-18.3°C)

I had one, I thought I had moved it in during our 2021 freeze but it seems to have disappeared. They aren’t extremely hardy unfortunately.

In some areas around here the Opuntia engelmannii v. linguiformis have become a feral pest. Many of these areas are so dense with this species they are worse than cholla thickets (mainly Cylindropuntia fulgida) and have pushed out the native prickly pears. This area in Texas looks much more tame.

Another similar feral pest here, but not as bad is Opuntia microdasys v. rufida.

Opuntia and all the tropical cacti are my favorites.  For the Opuntia, I prefer the ones without long spines, those little prickles are bad enough.

Sure. It was built by the CCC using limestone and other rock from the immediate area. Some of it was rock that they cleared from the cavern in the process of creating Longhorn Cavern State Park. Here are a few more pictures of their work and the cavern.

Possibly a variation of Opuntia aciculata with spines. Growing in the wild near Comstock, Texas , about 200 miles north of their known range near Laredo.

Some padded goodies I saw at my favorite nursery yesterday. 
cylindropuntia imbricata, common but good sizecylindropuntia arbuscula, was tempted to snag this one. Not sure if it will make it long term, everything I could find on the interwebs say zone 8 minimumopuntia macrocentraopuntia strigil, bought this one

Went back to the nursery today because well I’m obsessed  Missed a few yesterday. 
opuntia? varigata, looked completely spineless and at least mostly glochidlessopuntia camanchica, def. New one to meOpuntia macrocentra, whole reason I went back, bought this one.

@teddytn A word of advice, do not grow Cylindropuntia kleiniae or Cylindropuntia leptocaulis. You will be removing glochids in perpetuity.

I'm currently growing O. ficus-indica and O. robusta from seed to try them outside. I have another Opuntia planted out in the garden but idk what kind it is. Can somebody identify? To me they are often very hard to tell apart.
