Hello everyone! I’ve noticed that my queen palm spear hasn’t been growing for the past week, today I realized that the spear is white in color and drooping. What is the cause of this? Thanks!

Could it be a lack of sunlight?   They can handle a good bit.

But dont let them grow too big. I did and had to pay heaps of $$ to have them removed after a few years due to a few problems...... huge amounts of seeds,  fronds that die but dont fall off, just big ugly trunks.  I didnt mind the fruit bats at night eating the fruit, but their purple shit was a bit of a problem.

Single trunk caryota sp grow huge, flower then die.   Bit of a problem in suburban Sydney.

I don’t think it’s the lack of sun, they get around 6 hours of direct sun per day.

Did the recent odd cold spell nip the sensitive spear???  Hard to tell.

Don’t worry about it too much. The palm could grow out of it or it might just collapse. But queens are overdone, inexpensive and easily replaced. Also you are in an area that can grow so many palms that are much nicer than queens. You will find after being on Palmtalk for a while you will want to grow all sorts of other palms.
