Seeds Arrived

Thanks to @ZPalms we've exchanged seeds. The seeds he forwarded arrived today. They are Washingtonia filibusta and Sabal palmetto from his post on them in Fayetteville, NC. They're the one's featured on a lot that is up for sale and maybe in danger of being removed / destroyed when development begins. I sent him some, fresh off the tree Trachycarpus fortunei . Hopefully they arrive soon Dylan.

I'm quite certain there will be plenty of sprouting seeds soon enough. The Sabals are slower starts than Washingtonia in my past experience.

BTW, here are the palms where your seeds come from. They're at the marina in town where quite a few palms are. Cheers.

Yes. There might be a small amount of early morning shade, but full sun is where they are. Nice thing is the seeds are at a comfortable height for picking.

Are the Butia and Cycas still there?

Did you try to dig out any of those seedlings?  A hori hori would be the tool of choice I think.

They are still their but the butia hasn't set seed from what I saw and the sago I don't even understand how you collect from them or if they even have seeds or pups? I know not a thing about them

@ZPalms I harvested from several different Trachy's in the area so I can't be 100% sure,, but based on where they were hanging in my barn, your seeds were the 2nd to last ones I hung so they should have been from this T fortunei in Centralia Wa.  I would have DM'ed you this but it won't let me upload pics to the personal messages.

Awesome thanks!!!! That's a nice trachy and I'm excited to finally get to grow some from seed for my first time, Can they be directly sown into the ground after germination? :D

I can't say for sure but they may be OK.  I wouldn't put all of them into the ground but if germination rates are good enough you can sure try.

I have a seedling that germinated in the ground.  I threw an upside down flower pot over it for our "arctic blast" back in Dec/Jan, but last week it saw several nights in the low 20's and one night at 17f with no protection and it looks fine.

Oh that sounds like a good idea, I'll try that, Thanks!! I got a couple of pots that I could use in their first year if I need too cover them :greenthumb:B)
