Hi all,

I am new to this forum and I don't have experience with palm trees neither. I moved to a new place in South America about a year ago and this indoor tree seems to be struggling.

First, I would like your help to identify the plant and what can be the reason(s) for the dry/yellowing leaves, necrotic tips, curling leaves and that kind of black dust.

As far as I have been reading the latest can be a fungal problem that is in fact caused by a mealybug infection. Does that make sense for you?

Last but not least. Those two big roots have been recently emerged, does not look normal to me neither. But since I know nothing about palm trees, do you know what causes that? Underwatering? Or can be the plant don't liking the mulch we put months ago? I just moved it away from the trunk just in case.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Palm Talk, Looks like a Pheonix Robellini. Doesn't matter right now, What you need to do is cover the exposed roots with mulch and water it. Also, could you send a picture of the whole palm?

I saw that you put mulch, Try more nutrient rich mulch then tanbark.
