Wow. Thanks for the update. I am very interested in what the full damage or lack of it will be. How old is it and how long in the ground?

April update on my Washingtonia seedling. Burnt to a crisp, although no spear pull or new growth either. Standing by.

Saw these online yesterday (they are a new offering) and it made me think maybe you folks growing Washingtonia palms in marginal locations might be interested. Claims the parent survived 8 degrees. I’ve ordered a variety of plants from this botanical garden and they’ve always been great.

Thanks for finding that .

I noticed that Denton had a  few cold days last winter . If that Washy handled Denton's cold it should be able to make it through most of my winters . The Fayetteville Washy might have seen more cold than the Denton Washy  over the last 20-30 years though ?

Denton :

               High     Low

1/13        60F        19F

1/14        19F        11F

1/15        26F         10F

1/16         27F        9F

1/17          44F         10F  Then out of the woods for serious cold last winter .

Winston-Salem ( our only cold stretch . Everything is relative as to what is serious cold weather  ) :

1/16        41F      22F

1/17         36F      15F

1/18         48F       20F

1/19          48F      20F

1/20          29F      17F

1/21          40F      18F

1/22          48F      18F   Then I was out of the woods for serious cold .

It's been a long time coming, I dug this washie from the lot and took a chance. Out of the two, only this one survived after getting mowed down by whoever is maintaining the lot, winter, and me digging it up, which was on Friday, October 14, 2022. I just now, today, finally planted it in its new home! 🤠:greenthumb:

It actually looks really good considering the freezing precip events this past winter.  Pretty impressive.

What would be more important at this stage for my babies: heat or light?

Light certainly, but heat is also going to produce results.

I got one planted today right where my failed Majesty palm was last year. That's a 4x4 planting area.

To keep a visual reference, I marked the petiole with a felt tip marker to identify any new growth. Since yesterday afternoon it has grown ⅜".

My third and final "Fayetteville" was planted today. The newest petioles don't have any thorns and very few filaments. The petiole bases also have much more green than the other two palms.
