Does anyone know what’s going on with my relatives palms? He recently moved to a property that was old farm land last year so all his palms have been in the ground for about a year. It’s also in Arizona so the summer took a toll on them. Is having dwarf fronds/petioles a sickness? These palms did not look like this when planted. The palms below are Cuban Royal, psudophoenix saragettii, Brahea Brandegeei, livistona chinensis, Pritchardia palm.

One year in ground is not long. Your palms are making small leaves because they keep energy to install and make root. Be patient and water well.

You get smaller and more compact “sun leaves” when you take a plant and put it in a sunnier place than it has been growing.  There’s also transplant adjustment to a certain degree.  It can also be Manganese deficiency in certain soils.  I’d pour on the water and fertilizer, maybe some extra Mn and pray.

Those look like fairly young palms, if they were shade-house grown before planting it could just be "sun leaves" like Looking Glass said.  I've seen that on quite a few that I have purchased.  The oddest one was some Licuala v. Sumawongii that had 3' long petioles and 1' diameter fans when I bought it.  I planted it in full sun, and the next ones that grew out were about 1' petioles and 10" diameter fans...

As others have stated….they are likely fine. I’ve got quite a few that threw weird small fronds and grew out of it. I’ve heard the building root theory to it being caused by fertilizing young palms too quickly after planting out. Don’t fret.
