Got this idea from @Justin31703’s Coccothrinax forum, decided to do it with the beautiful Pseudophoenix species of Palm. Some photos of adult Pseudophoenixs would be amazing since their extremely slow growing. I have three in my yard in Maricopa AZ, but they’re all really small. Here’s my largest one.

Great idea!  Here’s my Sargentii in Gilbert, AZ.  Not fast but not as slow as I thought.  Nearly 4 feet tall and just chugging along.  Has anyone tried to transplant one of these?  I’m moving in a year or so and would hate to leave it or lose it.

That’s a cool looking bed with the cacti. Is that a saguaro behind the palm?

Mostly barrel type cacti around the palm. Here is a pic of a saguaro I grew from seed. Not as slow growing as people think when they have plenty of water to work with. This one is about 10 years old from seed.

I’ve been enjoying rehabbing a handful of these babies I found in various places, since last spring-summer…. They seem to respond well to full sun, some TLC and fertilizer.

This guy gets sunrise to sunset all day baking sun in the ground now, out in the open, growing at a rate of 2.5-3 fronds per year so far.  Ring spacing is tight, so it think it’s a regular.

The on deck circle suffers is a little slower in part-shade here and are ready for the ground this year, as soon as I’m ready.   They are getting a little blight spotting from the shade…..befores…

This species really likes the S FL soils. In Arizona,we have alkaline soils, and most of the Caribbean species seem to do well here too. Unfortunately, a lot of older Pseudophoenix in FL seem to catch a disease that usually leads to their death. Fortunately,I've never seen it manifest in the dry western states.

Mine is still juvenile and not getting the ringed trunk just yet, but here are few that are pretty large.  The sign is a bit over 8 feet above the ground level for scale.

This Florida native looks better and is cleaner in Arizona. Who would have guessed?

I was an early adopter of the Pseudophoenix species and have been singing it's praises for Arizona gardens. Very clean and trouble free grower here. I was able to grow and locally distribute about 50 sargentii palms at 3/5 gallon size,so I'm sure there are at least a few more survivers out there. (even shipped a few over to Cali)
