Does anyone have a few Sabal Uresana for sale or know where I might be able to purchase some? I'm based in Phoenix AZ.

I would ideally like both the silver and blue varieties to see which fares best in Phoenix, but I'd be happy with either!

Phxpalms, welcome to the forum,

You could try Phil at Jungle Music for bigger specimens..  May be a few Palm Talk members here or nearby growing some as well..  There are also several large specimens down at the Campus Arboretum in Tucson you might be able to collect seed off ( if you don't mind starting from seed ) Specimens at Boyce Thompson may ..or may not.. be at seedling age yet ( Don't recall seeing seed stalks on the bigger ones there ).  Not sure why but this awesome palm isn't grown as much here as it should be.

Hi Silas_Sancona, thanks for the warm welcome! I've been reading posts here for a few years, and figured it was time to finally join.

I agree - it's such a cool palm and native to the Sonoran desert, you would think they would be more available in AZ. Maybe it's the slow germination/early growth rate compared to Washingtonias, but my first hand experience is limited so just guessing ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thanks for the tips - I didn't think to check Boyce Thompson! I haven't been there since high school. I'm coincidentally driving up that way tomorrow, so I'll probably stop by.

I actually bought a very small specimen from Jungle Music a few months ago, but I believe that was all Phil had left. It's in the ground and doing well so far.

I also have the locations at UofA mapped out to check out next time I'm down in Tucson.  Thanks again for all the tips!

Yea, don't get it either..  Think if people could see how nice they look, say in some of the local parks, that might spur some demand for it.

Heading up to Boyce and another area east of there soon..

Need to check out the Campus Arboretum.. Is pretty much the only plant hot spot i haven't visited while roaming around Tucson, even though i'm in the area pretty often, lol.

Tohono Chul Park has several specimens of both forms also.. A couple might be at seeding size.. Found about 5 seeds near one of the silver ones last year.  Never seen them offer plants at the sales / in the main nursery space though.

Years ago (10-12?) a nursery there in town had a whole bunch of big beautiful ones in what looked like 44" boxes.  I don't remember exactly but I think it was either Western Tree or one of the other nearby ones right there on Southern.  I was happy to see them and hoped they might catch on being both unique and well adapted to the area.

Corpus Christi, TX, near salt water, zone 9b/10a! Except when it isn't and everything gets nuked.

Thanks again so much for all the great tips! I'm glad there is someone else in the Phoenix area who appreciates Sabal Uresanas. I agree, if these were planted around I think they would be much more popular.

No pressure at all, but let me know if you're open to selling any of the silver seeds you have. I suspect the only one I have in my yard is the more blue variety.

Oh wow, I've never seen them for sale in the Phoenix area... Shoot me a message if you ever see them again!

:greenthumb: Will keep you in mind, but to be honest, you'll likely find one ( or more ) ..or be getting seed up and going yourself before these will be ready.. One seems to be rooting, but no signs of top growth yet. Rest are really taking their time germinating.. Gotta love slow pokes, lol. Hopefully the heat this week / from here forward should help wake them up..
