i saw this fern at my local library and really loved the leaflets.  i am not familiar with this species so i was wondering if anyone can assist with ID.  @Silas_Sancona :D

Was it a large fern?  I immediately thought Woodwardia fimbriata - Giant Chain Fern.  West coast native.

 :greenthumb:  I'm going to keep looking, but Woodwardia fimbriata, Our native Chain Fern would be my initial thought..

yes it was fairly large.  you cant see the scale but the leaves are about 3 feet in length

That sounds about right for Woodwardia.. If you look online, you'll see pictures of someone standing next to a specimen in habitat with fronds that are 6ft ( or longer )  If you take another look at the specimen you saw, check the back of the leaflets.. specifically how the Sori ( Spore producing bodies on the leaflets ) are arranged..  The name " Chain Fern " often refers to how the Sori are arranged ..Like links in a Chain..
