I germinated a pair of Sabal Bermudana seeds about one month ago (first pic is from May 1) and sowed then after and have had them covered to keep moisture in and on a heat mat. Still haven’t seen anything pop up above surface of soil yet and I’m wondering if they might be dead or are just really slow

Sabals are remote germinators. They send down a deep radicle first. Later the eophyll will emerge midway along the radicle and send up the first leaf to the surface. That first leaf emerges sometimes weeks after germination.. Be patient.

Cheers Steve

It is not dead, it is just senescence.

  • 1 month later...

I just germinated a few more and roots had outgrown a 6” tall pot before anything even popped up above surface. And I don’t just mean a little root was poking out the side, I mean there were 4-5” of roots out bottom of both pots. These things love to be overpotted
