I'm a hypocrite. I have 2 in my office window, and I need to take pics. I have an Aloe Dorotheae and another one whose name escapes me, but it looks cool and it definitely leaves yellow stains on expensive dress shirts. Still looking for a reasonably priced Aloe Hercules.

But looking for unusual aloes that I can literally put in a window and ignore. Both of my window plants are full of pups and super stabby. Obv there's an Aloe vera in there but my Window of Doom was cooking it, so it's been moved away from said window

.... so how big is your window?  Aloe Hercules, now Aloidendron Hercules get big fast.  See photos below of a 1 gallon 11 years after it was planted.  On a more serious note, how is your Aloe dorotheae doing potted inside?

I have no experience with growing Aloes indoors and how they handle the indoor lighting,  A couple of the smaller species that I like are Aloe peglerae and Aloe somaliensis however my experience is limited to growing these outside.  I'm not sure how they will do in an indoor climate.

The little species in the split off Aloidendron genus is ramosissium (formerly Aloe ramosissima), but even that gets too big for a window sill pretty quick.

Have you considered the related Haworthia genus which is also from South Africa?  I am limited in my knowledge about the genus, but know there are some that look like tiny Aloe species.  I have one that has dealt with a lot of abuse and just keeps going.  It is a pretty common variety.

As previously mentioned a couple of smaller Aloes that might fit the space for a while are Aloe peglerae (first photo) and Aloe somaliensis (mine may actually be Aloe hemmingii, but it was acquired as A somaliensis).  I had these both in pots for a couple of years before planting in the ground 5-7 years ago, I don't recall exactly when.  They have remained compact which is why I suggested them.  I have no experience with them indoors though.

She seems happy so far. She was brutally rootbound in a 6" pot, so I put her in a 2 gallon. She's got a little pup, and the Walmsleys has 3 or 4 plants in there.

Off the top of my head, I wanna say it's a 5ft window. I've got a mandarin spider plant and a little snake plant, plus a cat palm in front.

I need to bring a couple of the A. Tuckerii seedlings from my patio to throw in here too.

I was asking about the window relative to your interest in Aloe "Hercules"/Aloidendron "Hercules".  The one I posted above is in the center of the photo 2 years after planting it from a one gallon, in Autumn of 2012.  The photo I posted above was Autumn of 2021... its even bigger now.  I would focus on some of the smaller alternatives.

If you really want one of the tree aloes, now Aloidendron genus, look for Aloidendron ramosissimum.  A ramosissimum is the little branching guy in the second photo.

They're getting some color. I really do need to take these home and split all the pups up but no motivation. Hope the colors show up in the photo... I'm weird and like to keep the florescent lights off in my office.
