I had to go down the hill to plant my Syagrus Schizophylla. I waited until mid day to make sure it would be in the shade of my Butia and the two Brahea. I took a couple of pics while I was down there. Aside from the inflos, which need to be trimmed off so they don't go falling on passing vehicles, the drives of which can't drive correctly on a normal day anyway,  agree ..But,   that is how it goes here..

Home of Pinanga capitata var capitata I believe. It must get really chilly up there so I’m guessing they’d have at least a degree of cold hardiness. I’ve been looking for seeds of this one for a while but never seen them available of heard of any in Aus but I’m guessing someone out there must grow them.

Last night the boot came off this Chrysalidocarpus prestonianus, revealing it's colorful trunk underneath.   I couldn't help noticing.

That’s a beauty! How far up the mountain does P pilosa grow Stephen? Must be a fascinating place where there’s a transition from tropical lowland rainforest to near Alpine conditions at the summit.

It grows around the Park Headquarters at about 1300m. A popular spot for locals to escape the coastal heat for the cool. About 85km but often 2 hrs drive with traffic. On the "highway" from Kota Kinabalu to Sandakan.

Tracy, that is looking quite nice and has shown quite a bit of growth in the last few years. I like the photo vignette as well with the cycads and that weepy plant in the foreground.

Another frond drop on the middle Lemurophoenix halleuxii. Not so bright as the last one, but still pretty. 🥰 I love the tiny polka dots on the leaf scar.

Agreed Tracy. Tim’s tree in person is even more fantastic than in pictures as you know. Doesn’t even look real. 😂

My Hibiscus tiliaceus (Talipariti tiliacea) is loaded with buds and has been busting out with these beautiful blossoms the last few days. What a great tree for the Palm Springs area...it always looks wonderful, happy with its big, glossy leaves, never bothered by sizzling (123F) summer heat/sun, nor from temps down toward the freezing mark. Never blanches in the heat, never yellows or purples (anthocyanins) in the cold. Just a beautiful, wonderful thing to my eyes, and I'm oh so glad I planted it.

And an honorable mention...Bauhinia x Blakeana making a very nice mid-winter show as well!

First bloom on my Bauhinia x blakeana for the year. I'll take whatever this tree offers! Removed a big messy B. variegata that was competing with it, so I'm expecting more flowers this year. That's the trunk of a Brachychiton discolor behind it, which rarely blooms here.
