Lars, beautiful palms when young, but they are fast growers and soon you’ll be looking up at it. These are robust palms.

Picture doesn't do it justice but the coloring on this Patric hybrid deserves a shot. Butia x Monty (S.Schizz x S.Rom) Almost a purple to it !

My double Archontophoenix Maxima. The emerald color on the crown shaft of the larger palm is the deepest I’ve seen on a King Palm.

Looking great Tracy! I can’t believe how well they do in California. It also looks like an easy grow there as well. On another note, Clinos seem to do well in deep soil or on fractured rock with little cover. All of the specimens in the garden are growing on very little soil and most are surprisingly robust.

Interesting how adaptable they are Tim.  The one in the photo is in Carlsbad heavy clay soil.  I started one in Leucadia with the fast drainage sandy soil and it is doing well too.  When you mentioned that yours are growing on volcanic rock with little soil I had a visualization of how coconuts can sprout south of you on the new lava flows.  It was such a mind blowing experience to be in those flows and see a coconut sprouting.  You could travel down with some Clinostigma seeds and be the equivalent of Johnny Appleseed.   Some canopy for the folks trying to rebuild in the flow areas.

I’m happy to see you posted your Clinostigma Tracy as well! It’s been a while and yours is one of the largest in California. I left 2 behind at my old home that were about 8 feet tall. I have 3 in ground in my current yard but all were in pots last winter so I brought inside on the worst days so this winter will be their first test.

I would bet that the next Palm Society Meeting will include a larger Clinostigma savoryanum here in Encinitas, based on where Dave indicated it will be in September.  I think MattyB has a large one and can't remember for sure but think Matt P,, in University City has a larger one (can't remember Matt P's PalmTalk name).  The one I have in Carlsbad inspired me to plant this one in Leucadia after a Caryota that was in this general area started to bloom and I removed it.  I think it will be a good replacement.  This one has only been in the ground for about 4 years if I recall correctly.  The new leaf opening drew my eye to it today!

@Tracy & @James B, I remember when @Josh-O posted this picture on IG of non other than @DoomsDave grasping this massive Clinostigma owned by somebody living in Huntington Beach who I can’t remember at this time. I’d say this has got to be the biggest…..or one of the biggest in CA for sure.

No, not a palm that caught my eye this morning but the results of a humble bulb given to us by a neighbor.   We have been watching these Amaryllis belladonna grow, die back and flower for several years now.   The displays never cease to be impressive.   I see these on an ocean bluff where bubs got loose ages ago, growing amidst both natives and planted imports.  Such an easy plant but full of reward.

Not a palm but my longan fruited for the first time. It has a lot of fruits. The lychee next to it should fruit better next year. It had only 4-5 fruits but they dried.
