Anyway, it’s one of my favorites in the garden. Trouble free, fast growing, sun tolerant and unique. What’s not to like? Hard to picture right now as the lower fronds need to be cleaned up to appreciate the ringed trunk.

Mine came from Bill Austin here on the Big Island. Right down the road from Floribunda. I’ll be curious to see if my seed germinates.

At the same time (today) outside behind the wall  - C. hospita starts to get into shape. Seed grown as its C. fallaensis buddy,

enjoying full sun through the day.

A "side project" - just for the fun of it, I kept a chopped off head of a pine, put in water and then in a pot, planted it out and here

Atfer having it kept in larger pots for years - I gave myself a push and put it in the ground couple months ago (only survivor of a 

probabaly 10seeds batch from rps) and it seems to enjoy its new environment. It looks strong and promising -

C. borhidiana.

Btw., I recently read an article about Oman - the nature seems to be very interesting.

From desert like areas to places with a humid and therefore very lush flora - I guess and hope

that you have good time there.

A few palms around Lisbon, Portugal...the queens were potted.  Saw numerous Washingtonia around the airport and few other Phoenix palms as well.

This seedling caught my eye again today when one of the leaves was waving at me in the wind. Comparing it to late 2022, it has grown quite a lot! Might be finding it a home in the ground soon, who knows.

I'm guessing this to be a very rare hybrid. I believe it to be a teddy, teddy triangle, I have a teddy (don't really know which one) who is about 10ft away from a tri-bear. Most of the teddy seeds that fall and germinate are very slow like most teddy bears for me, this one is a rocket and definitely has some triangle going on. Very sweet palm.

...when my one and only D. album var. aureum (as almost always: seed grown) pushed a new and this time promising

looking torpedo out.

Two days ago another boot came off...

It was too bright at that time but I think you get the idea.

I had bought 2 of these a long time ago, both slow but easy growers. For some reason I had them in my mind as Saribus rotundifolius but now that I google that I'm pretty sure they are not. Ideas. Heavily armed but great looking palm.

Not my photos but someone uploaded yet another UK Washie at 51N latitude in Essex that I have not seen before. It has clearly taken a bit of winter damage, but that whole area of Kent and Essex seems to be a right hotspot for Washingtonia with some of the biggest specimens, especially in terms of hybrids and Filifera specifically. Although this particular specimen doesn’t even make it in to the top 20 for Essex and Kent.

Also Echium Webbii going absolutely spastic in Cornwall with prolific flowering to the point that it is almost unmatched in the world. The native specimens on La Palma in the Canary Islands certainly cannot compete with the scale of this. Perhaps it is bolstered by the 6 months of autumn and all the excessive rainfall that we have had since October!

Damn that looks close, other then this "The long petioles are boldly striped with yellow and dark green and are armed with ferocious spines. " Mine are really dark green to black

Love pulling an old front and exposing the beautiful crownshaft of this palm. Was sold as a "spottle" bottle x spindle cross. Anyway it's a winner.

Nice palm.  With its trunk shape I would have guessed spindle × Hyophorbe indica.  It looks like a vigorous grower based on the ring spaces too.

I totally agree, that has been my thought ever since it got some size. I'm guessing my thought as a spottle when i bought it was bottle x spindle but think it's champagne bottle x spindle.  Been a great grower and a handsome palm.

Could it be livistona saribus? I was at Marie selby botanical garden over the weekend and they had a livistona saribus there that looked a lot like your picture. I was shocked by how heavily armed it was... Thorns everywhere! And it also had the divided leaves like yours too.

Here's a couple pictures I was looking at from palmpedia, looks a lot like yours, but I am definitely not an ID pro by any means,.so take what I'm saying with a grain of salt 😂

Yes, another member identified it as such, good eye. Has been super slow. would be sweet seeing it get some size.
