Hey All,

Thought on pop on here and show this big boy off. I finally move on Friday and this is one of my last palms to transport. It survived in ground with protection 0F and has pushed out 3 leaves since I dug it up. Had some cold ring but is growing out of it.

Think I should plant it this late or hang on to it for a season? It’s my most prized palm!

Nice palm!  What zone are you moving to and what protection do you plan will help me give a opinion?

Thanks! I think initially it was shade grown but I had it in full sun last season and so far this season. Hoping the crown fills out nicely soon.

Thanks! I’m going to 6b from 6a. Not much of a change. I’ll do the wooden structure with a greenhouse panel top again with Christmas lights and mulch. I have ceramic heat bulbs I attached to the top during the coldest days last year. Lots of copper.

You can go ahead and plant it if it will be enclosed/heated from approx. Mid Dec to March.  Otherwise it will be much more susceptible to problems from rot after being so stressed.  I'd skip the clear top panel and use insulation board.

That is a good idea with the insulation board. I have a really nice protected spot south facing at the new house. Will be happy once it’s in. Thanks again and for the tips!

I feel confident in saying that you can plant it. I will have plenty of time to spread roots. Just be careful with early or late snow.  Its quite a lovely palm.
