Thanks Tin! Not sure if I'll be at this property then but hopefully I could rent it out so I can still enjoy them from afar.

I don't think Santa Clarita is considered part the The High Desert geographically speaking but climate wise definitely. I know Santa Clarita is pretty spread out amongst the hills & valleys & elevation goes up pretty high in parts aswell. You should be a solid half zone to zone higher than me? Would you say a low 9b where you live? Alot of the stuff I grow should thrive there... do you guys get bad Santa Ana winds?

Hesperia,Southern CA (High Desert area). Zone 8b

Elevation; about 3600 ft.

Lowest temp. I can expect each year 19/20*f lowest since I've been growing palms *13(2007) Hottest temp. Each year *106

well hopefully you can keep it as income property or swing by to see how your palms fair. :)

yes i am in zone 9b.  it has snowed here twice and even got 26F for 6 hours once.  with that being said, we do get crazy santa anas as well.  i always thought of my geographic region as high desert since acton is right next door and its a much higher elevation as well.  oh well, regardless, i believe we have similar climates.  well my garden was started in 2009 :D

dont want to hijack your thread so there is a thread called "my palm tri garden"  where i document the progress.

cheers

Looking awesome..really great growth actually.  Do any of your palms have issues with your soil or water? Also curious about your watering schedule.. Looking forward to future updates for sure. Everything looks great.

Did you ever get your uresana in the ground? Wondering how it's doing in a pot..

@SailorBold, thanks man! No issues with my soil or water. Most of my soil is sandy/clay? Most areas of my yard drain really well & my water is filtered through a system we just got 8 months ago. But before that no issues with my water. When they tested my water is hand a bunch of minerals, small traces of metals & very low chlorine. I can't remember what the ph was, maybe 7.3?

I actually sold the Uresana. It went to a good home though & to a better zone! 9b to be exact ;)

So i have a drip system in & my small palms or drought tolerate palms & cycads have 1-2 gallon emitters. Sabals have 2-4 gallon emitters but as they get bigger I'll increase per gallons. Livistona's have 4-6 gph, Jubaea has 8 gph etc..

I'm going to adjust as time goes on but I run 3 days a week for 35 minutes x3 times back to back in the mornings. So like 6:00am, 6:45am, 7:30am, something like that. Days I run are Fridays, Saturdays & Wednesdays.  Then I do a bit of hand watering atleast once a week as well... My palms get alot of water! I soak the crap outta Queens, Mule,Sabal's, Livistona's, Allagoptera Arenaria's, Serenoa Repens,Trachycarpus & every 2 weeks the Brahea Edulis, Butia Odorata,Chamaerops Humilis. Every 3-4 weeks Jubaea, Nannorrhops, Chamaerops Argentea, Trithrinax Campestris Brahea's etc..

I ones in the very back like (Livistona Chinensis, Decora), Acoelorrhaphe Wrightii, Rhapidophyllum Hystrix, some Sabals, Phoenix Acaulis, (Brahea Dulcis, Aculeata, Armata Super Silver) don't get alot of love though.  I try & soak them with a hose once a month.

I'll start cutting back the water alittle by little starting in October.

Not sure if that was too much info lol!

Not at all.. thank you for the info... I have a one zone Drip line so I've been trying to size the emitters for the palms as they get larger.. I rarely hand water.. and i dont adjust the watering times..I just shut the system off December-February like clockwork.  It's helpful to me!

Oh no.. bummer on the uresana.. that palm would be awesome for you.. any plans on another? Mines doing alright.. and im trying to be patient with it!

Really like your choices.. your palms look so good..

Definitely like the easy way but I do enjoy hand water for some reason lol! I don't need to hand water, everything would be just fine if I didn't.

I still have a Uresana in the ground 👍

I feel you man, Definitely need patience with them.  I'm hoping it picks up speed as time goes on.

That's awesome..!! I love it when they look like that.. trunkless and long stalks. That's doing great.. looks like each new frond is progressively bigger too..

Nice!

Nice Brahea Decumbens. I have one that's been freshly planted in the ground. It took a while for me to find one and it's just now starting to become active in it's new place in the garden. I can't wait to see it develop from here.

If you are ever passing through Riverside area, and I can show you my palm collection.  Looks like I have a lot of the same things that you have.

@PR00636, thank you! I'll definitely keep that in mind.

I'll post some updates soon. Need to snap some new photos over the next week.

I've been negligent to all my plants over the pass year or so. I just run the drip system & not really pay attention to them. I go weeks without walking around looking at them some times. Ironically,  I took a look today & was ecstatic at what I found!!!

My Trithrinax Campestris is flowering!!
