I have an old palm in the backyard. I'm putting a new fence in and it seems it's time for this palm to be removed due to the roots coming way up out of the ground. I know they come up partially, but this seems excessive. Is it time to remove this tree?

The adventitious roots are fine.  The palm doesn't appear unhealthy.

The tree looks very healthy so Id only remove if you want it gone. The roots can either be hidden with other landscaping or you could do a raised bed around it

I have this situation with a sabal palm with it's trunk partially interfering with a wood fence.  Pushing it leaning one way.

When I redid the fence I simply cut the bottom of the wood fence pickets around the root/trunk protrusion, kind of make it curve up then back down.

@saturation I'd agree with the other comments above, that palm looks very healthy and personally I think the roots around the base make it really unique.  Some palms grow more "adventitious roots" than others, it's probably a combination of genetics and environment.  Maybe 10-20 years ago it was growing against the fence and got pushed a bit to the side.  Either way, if there isn't a reason to remove it then it'll probably keep growing fine for many more years. 

As an example of really crazy roots, here is a Phoenix Sylvestris with roots a full 8 FEET up the trunk!  :D

Thanks! I like the raised bed idea and it's good to know it's still healthy. I'm a palm amateur, which is why i joined these forums :) Thanks everyone!
