If you're interested in starting them from seed, I just bought some of these off of eBay and so far had a 60% germination rate. Its only been two weeks so I'm expecting an even higher germination rate over the next few weeks.

The seller ships with the fruit still on the seeds though so be ready for a very soggy and smelly bag in your mailbox.

What method did you use to germinate these?  I bought these from this seller and planted them on 7-10 and still nothing.

These seeds have been pretty weird so far. Not sure if its the seed batch or if the species is as high maintenance as my wife, but here's been my experience so far.

Seeds were soaked for 2-3 days (after I got all the fruit off by drying them in front of a dehumidifier) and then put into moist vermiculite in a ziplock bag and into my "seed germination squirrel cage" outside without direct sunlight.

It was 90F+ during the day, and 80+ degrees at night here when the first round of germination took place. It's cooled a LOT, literally overnight for the past week, down to 70 at night and only 80+ during the day and none have germinated since that first round. So it's possible temperature is the key here, but....

What's really weird, is the seeds put into plain vermiculite were the only seeds that germinated. I put about 25% into a sphagnum peatmoss/vermiculite mix just to experiment with a different medium and not a single seed in that bag has germinated as of yet, even with the same temp conditions, same soak time, same everything.

No idea what the difference is, but soon I'm consolidating them all into plain vermiculite and moving them into the greenhouse to be on top of a heating pad to get those temperatures back up in hopes that it will germinate the rest.

PS - I just counted the actual number of cone-tainers labelled S. Schizo and there are 16. So I overestimated in the prior post and it's actually just over 50% germination rate as of now.

Good luck!

These are pretty fast to germinate. Is the seed fresh? If it isn’t, that is typically the culprit.

Well then that isn’t the problem. They like heat, give them time.

So I never actually moved these onto a heat pad but it got 90+ the last couple of days and sure enough, some more popped.

I think its clear that heat is the key ingredient with these.

Thanks I'll just keep being patient.  It has been 95+ everyday since summer started so I don't know what I'm doing wrong.  I'll continue to keep an eye out to see if I get any of them to pop
