I don’t know folks but this 8-years or so in-ground Brazoria has morphed into something new this season…it’s growth, compared to past years has been phenomenal…the frond (front) in the picture, is 4.5 feet wide and 3.5 feet high from the base of the costa to the segment tip.  The newest open frond is the same if not a little bit bigger.

It will remain the Trachy’s understory companion but it seems to be taking up a lot more of that vacant space. Discussed this before, but it seems once that trunk began to take shape, so did the top growth. I have a theory, being a Sabal, it spends several years of energy setting its underground trunk/tap root and at some point (this season) reaches underground maturity and directs all that energy above ground. I think that’s what I’m seeing here…
